"One of the city mountains"

The view of the Bergen peninsula makes Fløyen a popular attraction among tourists and locals alike.

Walks and hikes on Fløyen

Fløyen or Fløyfjellet is one of the "city mountains" in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. Its highest point is 400 m (1,300 ft) above sea level. The name could originate from fløystangen or a weather vane that was set up to indicate the direction of the wind for sailing ships.

The view of the Bergen peninsula makes Fløyfjellet a popular attraction among tourists and locals alike. It has a funicular system called Fløibanen that transports passengers from the center of Bergen to a height of 320 m (1,050 ft) in roughly eight minutes.

Twists & Turns

On this walk you will have a golden opportunity to take great pictures of fantastic views and charming old wooden buildings.

The route winds its way down from the mountain with many twists and turns, but it is easy to find your way. On your way down, make sure you leave plenty of time to relax on one of the many benches along the way. They are placed so that you can really take in the great view.

Breath-taking Beauty

There are several hiking options on Fløyen itself, or one can continue further on to Vareggen or over Vidden to Ulriken. Fløyfjellet provides signed hiking roads to Blåmannen, Rundemannen, and Sandviksfjellet.

At midtfjellet at the foot of Blåmannen there is a kiosk called Brushytten. The roads and paths down from Fløyen are floodlit in the winter months and are popular for sledding.
