Ulriken
"The highest of the Seven Mountains!"

The view of the Bergen peninsula makes Fløyen a popular attraction among tourists and locals alike.

Walks and hikes on Ulriken

Ulriken is a landmark in Bergen. It is famous for its cable car and the characteristic television transmitter tower at its summit. On the top of the mountain, you will find a small store and a restaurant, as well as panoramic views over the city and the surrounding areas. Ulriken offers many different hiking opportunities, some more challenging than others.

Ulriken (or the older, Ålreken) is the highest of the Seven Mountains (Norwegian: De syv fjell) that surround the city of Bergen, Norway. It has a height of 643 metres (2,110 ft) above sea level. Ulriken has an aerial tramway, Ulriksbanen, that can bring people to the top.

Travel down in style!

At the top, you can enjoy the view of the city before you start the hike. This route offers exciting cultural history as well as beautiful and wild highland nature and scenic views. To the south, you might see the Folgefonna glacier and to the west the North Sea. You will walk to “Turnerhytten” on one path and return on a different route, where you also will pass several ruins of old cabins.

This is a self-guided hike, which means that you will be provided with an app, which guides you in the right direction and gives you information about the places you visit along the trail.

Headline

Despite the ease of navigation, the views from this hike are absolutely stunning! Even though you left from the outskirts of Norway’s second-largest city, the alpine tundra on top of Ulriken feels wild and remote, especially as you gaze down on the hustle and bustle of the city far, far below.

You must try it yourself!
